ASHNEETA PRASAD holds a Combined PhD/ Master of Psychology (Clinical) and a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) degree from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). She is a Member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA).
Ashneeta is a warm, inviting, and empathic therapist who is committed to nurturing the therapeutic relationship she has with her clients. She is passionate about empowering her clients in an attuned and collaborative way to help them navigate their personal challenges and foster more meaningful lives and relationships.
Ashneeta adopts a reflective and creative approach when working with clients to ensure they receive tailored and evidence-based support. She draws from several therapy modalities including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, as well as psychodynamic, and attachment-focussed therapies. Ashneeta has also completed accredited advanced Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training for working with adults.
Ashneeta has experience working with adults and families across private and public community health and inpatient hospital settings. She completed her clinical training at Cumberland Hospital, Auburn Community Mental Health Service, Child, and Family Community Mental Health Service (Croydon, Marrickville, and Canterbury), the UNSW Psychology Clinic, and the UNSW Parent-Child Research Clinic. Across these services, Ashneeta worked with individuals and groups to provide assessment and treatment of a range of difficulties including complex trauma and abuse, emotion dysregulation, mood, anxiety, psychotic and conduct disorders, disordered eating as well as relationship and parenting difficulties.
She has a particular interest in working with survivors of complex trauma and has specific training and experience drawing from evidence-based frameworks such as DBT and attachment theory to assist with empowering clients on their journey to recovery.
In conjunction with her clinical practice, Ashneeta has also completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology at UNSW. She complements her clinical interests with research relating to the assessment and treatment of early attachment relationships, particularly among at-risk children. She has presented her research internationally and has published research in high-impact journals. Ashneeta has also attracted government funding to evaluate the effectiveness of a mental health literacy training program she developed for NSW primary school teachers.
