Phoebe Lau is a fully registered psychologist and has completed a combined Doctor of Clinical Psychology and a Master of Science from the University of Sydney. She holds an honours degree in Arts, Psychology, and an Education degree from the University of Sydney. Prior to clinical training, Phoebe worked for the Black Dog Institute and the School of Psychiatry at the University of New South Wales, on a longitudinal family study of bipolar disorder. She has also worked as a School Counsellor for the Department of Education and Communities for several years in a full-time and a casual capacity.
Phoebe has experience working with adults, adolescents and children in community health settings. She has experience in treating adults with bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety and emotion-regulation difficulties. Among adolescents and children, Phoebe has experience in helping the young person and family manage depression, anxiety, behavioural difficulties, and parent-child relationship problems. She has particular research and clinical interests in helping families adjust to a parent diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
Phoebe takes a warm and collaborative approach to therapy and seeks to understand the needs of her clients and their families. She integrates and draws upon evidence-based skills of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, attachment-based, values-based and emotion coaching strategies.
