Amy Hannigan, B Health Sc (Nutrition and Dietetics), APD

Amy Hannigan is a qualified Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) and member of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA). Amy holds a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) (Hons) from Queensland University of Technology and has completed further education in counselling and motivational enhancement strategies.

Amy is experienced in a range of clinical conditions having worked at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she developed a thorough understanding of diet-disease relationships. During this time she also worked on general mental health wards, in a community based mental health service and at the state specialty eating disorder unit. In addition to her work at Southside, Amy currently works at Wesley Private Hospital Ashfield Eating Disorder Unit and has established a private practice in Sydney’s CBD.

Amy has a passion for all aspects of food and the role it serves in our society physically, emotionally and socially. Amy provides patients with individual advice and recommendations taking into account past medical history, lifestyle, work and family commitments, religious and cultural beliefs.

At Southside, Amy aims to educate clients on the role of nutrition in their lives and assist clients to strike a balance to achieve physical and emotional wellbeing. Amy is committed to keeping abreast of emerging research and evidenced-based practice and translating this into practical, individualised advice and recommendations for her valued clients.

Areas of expertise include but are not limited to:

  • Eating Disorders (including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa,
    binge eating disorder and EDNOS)
  • Diet and lifestyle issues related to depression, anxiety and stress
  • Women’s health
  • Pregnancy and postnatal health
  • Chronic disease management (including diabetes and heart disease)
  • Oncology pre and post treatment
  • Malnutrition, Overweight and obesity management

FEES:

Initial session 45-60 minutes $95
Subsequent  sessions 30-45 minutes $65

Medicare rebate of $52 per session for up to 5 sessions may apply.
