Eating Disorders therapy services

Southside Health and Wellbeing is a private therapy practice located in Hurstville. Our dedicated team provide ongoing outpatient care to patients with eating disorders, offering the following multdisciplinary services:

Clinical Psychology: A variety of therapies are provided by our Clinical Psychologists, including Cognitve-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Family Therapy. As well as specifically addressing behaviours and cognitions associated with a patient’s eating disorder, we work to address additional issues such as depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. Treatment will always include a focus on building self-esteem and self-awareness, and enhancing interpersonal functioning.

Nutrition and Dietetics: Our Dietitan Amy Hannigan provides support and guidance in relation to health eating behaviours, and will develop an individualised meal plan. Treatment will focus on normalizing weight and eating patterns, structuring eating behaviours and, in the case of anorexia nervosa, setting realistc weight goals.

Psychiatry: Our Psychiatrist Dr Mathew Davies will provide psychiatry review and medication as required.

GP: The patient’s own GP will be an important part of the treatment program, providing ongoing review of physical health and wellbeing. Our team will provide regular updates to GPs to ensure optimal patient care.

Fees and Referrals: This is a private therapy service, and patients are required to pay session fees at the time of their appointment. Rebates are available through Medicare for all of our services. To be eligible for Medicare rebates for Clinical Psychology services patients must be referred by their GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. To be eligible for rebates for Dietitan services patients must be referred by their GP using a ‘Referral Form for Chronic Disease Allied Health (Individual) Services under Medicare’. A standard GP referral is required to see our Psychiatrist. Private Health Fund rebates may also apply for Clinical Psychology and Dietitan services.
